Zaum Tractor is a 2-screen video work filmed throughout Southern Russia as part of our recent 3 month residency in Rostov-on-Don. Zaum Tractor addresses notions of freedom and collectivity though a series of architectural stagings of transrational ‘zaum’ poetry written by Russian Futurists one hundred years ago. The work also presents contemporary social spaces of athleticism and risk-taking, annual tractor races, displays of faith and patriotism, the machine-like playing of church bells and the resurgent modern-day Cossacks in Russia’s south.
